The Bloomington Housing and Redevelopment Authority and Outlaw Development held a groundbreaking for a new home under the Bloomington Affordable Home Ownership Program, after roughly nine months of planning. Construction is expected to finish in spring or early summer 2027, after which the home will be sold to a local family at an affordable price. The program aims to build 27 owner-occupied homes over the next few years.

A speaker at the groundbreaking said rising home prices have made ownership increasingly out of reach, and shared that having experienced homelessness and lived in social housing, building affordable homes for low-income residents is personally important. Speakers said the program is intended to help families move to Bloomington and make the city more accessible.
