Optimist Club's Halloween trick-or-treating moves to the Hyland Hills Chalet

TLDR: The Bloomington Optimist Club's yearly indoor Halloween party leaves the Bloomington Event Center for the ski chalet at Hyland Lake Park Reserve. It runs 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.

The Bloomington Optimist Club's indoor trick-or-treating party has a new home this year. The club will hold its annual Halloween night party 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Hyland Ski Chalet, 8800 Chalet Road, the organizers said.

That's a change of scenery from last year, when the party was at the Bloomington Event Center at 1114 American Blvd. The new spot is the chalet at Hyland Hills Ski Area, inside the 1,000-acre Hyland Lake Park Reserve. Its high ceilings and big windows usually host weddings and corporate events, not a crowd of small Spider-Men.

The lineup inside stays the same: a trick-or-treat alley, carnival games and prizes, face painting and a photo station. Some of the loot this year is healthier than usual. The club said Park Dental donated toothbrushes for the event.

Bring something for the food shelf too. The club will collect food and cash donations for VEAP (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People).

The Optimists are a nonprofit that meets every Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. at Mugshots Coffee to plan events for kids and hear speakers. Besides the Halloween party, the club runs an Easter egg hunt, a fishing fair and a garage sale. Its website, bloomingtonoptimists.org, has event updates and a contact page.

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so families have more than one option that night.
