TLDR: Professional carvers will set up at the south entrance of Nickelodeon Universe for 2 days and carve cartoon favorites into real pumpkins while shoppers watch.

Mall of AmericaMOA event: PUMPKIN CARVERS

If your own jack-o'-lantern usually ends up with a triangle nose and a lopsided grin, here's a chance to watch people who actually know what they're doing. Mall of America has put "Pumpkin Carvers" on its events calendar. Professional carvers will work Nickelodeon characters into real pumpkins in front of anyone who wanders by.

It runs 2 days. Hours are 1–9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, and 11 a.m.–6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. The carvers will be at the Nickelodeon Universe South Entrance. The mall's listing says to "stop by and watch." It's a show you watch, not a class, so leave your carving kit at home.

The event page doesn't list an admission price or say you need a ticket. Watching from the walkway outside the theme park entrance should be the same as any other mall stroll, but check the listing before you go if cost matters. Questions can go to the mall at 952-883-8800.

Mall of America didn't say which characters will show up in squash form, only that they'll be "your favorite Nickelodeon Characters." That's a broad list, from SpongeBob on down. Kids who know every Paw Patrol pup will probably have opinions.

It'll be a crowded weekend at the mall. The One Piece Card Game Mall Tour is in the building Oct. 23–25, and John Legend is signing copies of his new album on Oct. 24. Plan your parking around that.
