Bloomington hits 90° on Oct. 10, a Twin Cities record for the date

TLDR: Saturday's 90° high set a new Twin Cities record for Oct. 10, in records going back to 1871. Sunday stays warm, and a front early in the week brings highs back down to the 60s by Tuesday.

If Saturday felt like July, you weren't imagining it. The high reached 90° on Oct. 10. That's the warmest the Twin Cities has ever been on that date, in records that go back to 1871. The low was only 60°, and there was no rain.

It won't cool off much overnight. The forecast low is around 70° under clear skies, with a south wind of 5 to 15 mph gusting as high as 30 mph. If you've got patio cushions, a light grill cover or a half-finished leaf pile in the yard, move it somewhere the wind can't take it.

Sunday is another warm one: sunny, with a high near 86° and a south wind of 10 to 15 mph. It's a good day for a trail walk, a bike ride or getting out on the water before the season's over. Bring more water than you'd usually pack in October, because a mid-80s afternoon still takes it out of you. Clouds roll in Sunday night, and the low stays mild at around 68°.

The change starts Monday, Columbus Day. It'll be partly sunny with a high near 82°, but the wind turns to the north at around 5 mph. There's a slight chance of showers between 1pm and 4pm, and the chance of rain is 20% overall. Monday night has better odds: a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms between 7pm and 1am, with the low dropping to around 55°. If you're driving home late Monday, watch for wet roads in spots.

By Tuesday it feels like fall again: mostly cloudy, with a high near 65° and a northwest wind of 5 to 10 mph. That's 25° cooler than Saturday's record. Enjoy the warmth while it lasts, and don't put the jackets away.
