Bloomington Cooked Through a Mild Week, Then Heat Roars Back Sunday

TLDR: After a hot Monday, Bloomington settled into a run of comfortable, dry summer days — until today, when the heat index climbs back near 107.

National Weather ServiceBloomington forecast

Monday, July 20

The week opened hot, with the high hitting 93° and the overnight low only easing to 71°. A quick 0.18 inches of rain fell, but it did nothing to break the muggy feel before things cooled off the next day.

Tuesday, July 21

A sharp break from Monday's heat, with the high dropping to 80° and no measurable rain. The low of 64° made for one of the more comfortable nights of the week.

Wednesday, July 22

The mildest day of the week by far — a high of just 75° and a low of 61°, with dry skies throughout. A good stretch for anyone with outdoor plans at the parks.

Thursday, July 23

Temperatures ticked back up to 81° with a low of 58°, the coolest overnight of the week. Still no rain to speak of.

Friday, July 24

A high of 83° and a low of 66°, with a trace of rain at 0.01 inches — barely enough to wet the pavement.

Saturday, July 25

The warm-up continued into the weekend with a high of 86° and a low of 71°, and skies stayed dry. It set the stage for the jump in heat arriving today.

Sunday, July 26

Today is the outlier of the week: mostly sunny with a high near 98° and a heat index as high as 107°, driven by a south-southwest wind at 5 to 10 mph. Anyone out at the parks or heading through the airport this afternoon should plan around the heat, and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms moves in tonight before 1am as the low settles near 76°.

That's the whole story for this week — a mild middle stretch bookended by two hot days, with tonight's storm chance the only real wrinkle before the week closes out.
