One soaking, then a dry stretch: Bloomington's week ends quiet, with a 79° Tuesday ahead

TLDR: Almost all of last week's rain fell on a single Tuesday, and the rest of the week was mild and calm. This week opens sunny, and Tuesday could reach 79°.

Last week's weather mostly happened on one day. On September 29, MSP picked up 0.92" of rain, nearly all of the week's total. The only other rain was 0.03" on October 3, barely enough to wet a windshield. Every other day was dry. No records fell and there was no snow, which still feels like a long way off.

Nights were the most interesting part. The lows on September 29 and 30 were 62° and 63°, which is muggy for the last days of September. Then the bottom dropped out. By October 2 the morning low was 44°, with a high of only 64°, the coolest day of the week. Highs otherwise ran between 67° and 72°, normal jacket-optional fall weather.

Tonight should be clear and cool, with a low around 43° and almost no wind. If you're out early, expect it to feel like October.

After that it gets warmer. The National Weather Service forecast calls for sun Monday with a high near 68°. Monday night stays mild, with a low around 57° and a south wind of 10 to 15 mph pulling in warmer air. That sets up Tuesday as the pick of the week: sunny, with a high near 79°. The forecast says temperatures will slip to around 76° in the afternoon as the wind turns west-southwest at 10 to 15 mph, so the warmest part of the day may come earlier than usual. If you're planning a long lunch outside or a walk around Normandale Lake, go earlier.

Tuesday night cools off to around 52° under mostly clear skies. Wednesday is sunny again with a high near 71° and a light west-northwest breeze.

Here's the practical part. None of the forecast periods through Wednesday mention rain, so roads should stay dry, trails and parks should be in good shape, and weather shouldn't cause trouble at the airport. If you've been putting off yard work, gutter cleaning or one last round of golf, the next 3 days are a good window.

The bottom line is that last week had one wet day and this week starts with none, plus one more day near 80°. Days like that get scarce from here, so enjoy it.
