A 22-year-old man from Hudson, Wisconsin, is charged with 1 count of domestic assault by strangulation and 1 count of threats of violence. He is accused of choking a 32-year-old Bloomington woman in her apartment. Police described him as her new boyfriend.

Officers went to the 8100 block of 31st Avenue around 10 a.m. on Oct. 1 after the woman reported that her boyfriend had strangled and threatened her. She told police the 2 had met in Wisconsin and had known each other for about 4 weeks. Before that morning, they had been living at his parents' house until they were recently evicted.

According to the charges, he had stayed at her apartment and spent the whole night drinking and using drugs. He was due at a work shift at 10 a.m., and when she had trouble waking him he got angry. Police said he pushed her against a wall during the argument that followed and threatened her. She also said he had threatened her with a box cutter earlier, and she knocked it out of his hand.

Officers documented injuries to the woman's face and neck. They found the man near the building, and he had her identification on him. She told police he had abused her physically and verbally ever since they started dating. He has prior domestic violence convictions in Wisconsin from 2024 and from June 2026.

The strangulation charge carries a maximum of 3 years in prison and a $5,000 fine. The threats charge carries a maximum of 5 years and a $10,000 fine.

In a separate case from the same week, a 38-year-old Bloomington man and a 66-year-old Richfield woman are charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Police were called to the 0-100 block of West 92nd Street shortly before midnight on Oct. 2 for a reported fight. Inside, officers found broken furniture and the man punching a 51-year-old guest who was on his back, and they used a Taser to stop the assault. The guest said the Richfield woman hit him with a walking stick and a birch branch, and police said she admitted striking him. He was taken to a hospital with a cut above his eye and a swollen face. The Bloomington man told police the guest had been staying there for about a week and turned violent when asked to leave.
