Penn Lake Library Hosts Health and Sustainability Fair Today

TLDR: Bloomington's Public Health, Solid Waste and Sustainability divisions set up shop at Penn Lake Library this afternoon with free compost bins, energy advice and health resources — one stop in a three-park summer series.

Penn Lake Library, 8800 Penn Ave S, hosts a healthy living and sustainability resource fair today, July 22, from 2 to 4 p.m., with representatives from the city's public health, solid waste and sustainability divisions on hand.

The event is the middle stop in a three-park series the city is running this summer. A Bryant Park fair already happened on July 15, and the series wraps up August 1 at Smith Park's West Gazebo from noon to 2 p.m. Today's Penn Lake fair brings in the Citizens Utility Board of Minnesota, The Health Commons at Pond Clinic and Reuse Minnesota as partners, while the Smith Park stop will feature Minnesota Doctors for Health Equity, Xcel Energy and the League of Women Voters.

Attendees can get advice on organics recycling and the city's bulky reuse and recycling service, along with energy-bill savings consultations and general health resources. Free compost bins, light bulbs and reusable water bottles are available while supplies last, and the city says refreshments will be on hand too. Admission is free.

Questions can go to the city's Sustainability division at 952-563-4862 or Public Health at 952-563-8900.
